I found this meme when I was teaching Cross-Cultural Communications at Baotou Teachers College. I went on to use it in History and other courses as well. When I first moved to China, I fell into a common trap: thinking that China was “backwards”. Well, which of these two is looking at the number from the backward point of view? Neither: They are in a different position.. I applied the same idea to teach Speaking and Critical Thinking. When I first started teaching Speaking, I started out by having students look out the window and tell me what they saw. This exercise grew to having them look out the window, then go outside and tell me what they saw. They were looking at the same place just from a different perspective. I learned to stop looking at China as being backwards in  this same way. .. On my Militia and Terrorism blog, I just posted a couple of articles about West Asia and why the Chinese refer to the region that we know of as the Middle East as West Asia. They’re not wrong, they are looking at it from a different point of view…. I have long said that if you haven’t lived in China then you don’t understand China. If you are going to understand the world today then you need to understand China www.militiatoday.com www.mgchinau.com
